New Shoes
Written by: George Chittenden : 21 Jul 2019
This beautiful picture never fails to put a smile on your face. It was first published in LIFE magazine on December 30th, 1946. The boy whose happiness is infectious, was six-year-old Austrian boy, Werfel and the new pair of shoes he’d just received were courtesy of the Junior Red Cross in the United States of America.
Werfel, was among the children who were brought to America after being deported from Israel / Palestine, where they arrived after liberation from the concentration camps. Having experienced what this child experienced, and keep smiling, makes me think that Werfel is a credit to us all.
