The Beatles Pillow Fight
Written by: George Chittenden : 29 Oct 2019
This amazing photo of the Beatles mid pillow-fight was taken in January 1964 on the night they found out that their song “I Want to Hold Your Hand” was No. 1 in the U.S! The photographer was Harry Benson, and the photo was taken in the swanky George V Hotel in Paris. The image captures the sheer joy, happiness and optimism that would be embraced as Beatlemania!

Interestingly Harry Benson was disappointed when he initially learned that he’d been assigned to photograph the musicians in Paris, as he saw himself as a serious photographer and didn’t want to cover a rock ’n’ roll story. However, that initial meeting changed the course of his life and led to decades of collaborations with the group.
