The Orphan Of The Baltic Fleet
Written by: George Chittenden : 06 Aug 2019
This interesting photo was taken in May 1943 and shows Russian sailors of the Baltic Fleet with two-year-old Lucy, who they adopted. I understand that many images like this one were used for propaganda during the war, but history is often dominated by the darkest of events. History often reminds me of that saying, “When you’re good they never remember, but when you’re bad they never forget”.

It’s nice to post something relatively positive from a one of the darkest periods of our history. Sadly, Lucy’s parents died during the siege of Leningrad. To save orphans from starvation, many Russian military units adopted them.
