The Fascist Party Headquarters
Written by: George Chittenden : 01 Aug 2019
This bizarre photo was taken in 1934 in Rome. The unusually decorated building was the headquarters of the Fascist Party Federation, and it was decorated like this for the 1934 elections. Benito Mussolini promised a new world order for Italy, a new world order of fascism. He wanted to transform the city with architecture that carried his message, broadcasting his achievements and objectives.

The “SI SI…” lettering simply means “Yes Yes…”. Voters didn’t vote for individual parties, as only the Fascist Party was running. Nor did they vote for candidates. Instead they simply voted yes or no to a list of candidates presented by Mussolini himself. Maybe it was out of fear, or possible agreement, but 99.84% of voters approved Mussolini’s list of candidates.
