On This Day… A Landmark Event!

It was on this day, 15th December, back in 1973 when the American Psychiatric Association declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder! Now I know you all love history, and if we go back several thousand years homosexuality was so, so socially acceptable, it’s shocking to think that in the modern age we’d have taken such narrow-minded steps backwards.
Sadly though, not everyone agreed with the 1973 ruling. In 1980 a new disorder was classified, Ego Dystonic Homosexuality. Individuals suffering from this disorder were homosexuals who wished their sexual orientation was different. In 1986 that disorder was de-listed. It wasn’t until 2006 when the Pentagon announced that it no longer deemed homosexuality a mental disorder.
