A Footprint On The Moon
Written by: George Chittenden : 21 Sep 2019
This photo was taken on July 20th, 1969 during the Apollo 11 mission which successfully landed two men on the lunar surface and returned them safely back to Earth. The photo features Buzz Aldrin’s footprint in the lunar soil. Now we all know that it was Neil Armstrong who made history and became the first man to ever set foot on the surface of the moon, with his small step for man, and one giant leap for mankind.
Buzz Aldrin’s footprint
It was Aldrin though who created this imprint whilst carrying out an experiment to study the nature of lunar dust and the effects of pressure on the surface, and it was Buzz Aldrin who took this photo. So the interesting question is, how long will the footprint remain up there? Well there is no erosion by wind or water on the moon because it has no atmosphere, and no volcanic activity either. So Buzz Aldrin’s footprint will be up there for millions of years and could even be there many years after the human race has faced extinction.
