On This Day… Adolf Eichmann Was Finally Captured In Argentina
Written by: George Chittenden : 10 May 2019
It was on this day, 11th May back in 1960 when a small team of Mossad agents abducted Adolf Eichmann in Buenos Aires before flying him to Israel to stand trial. Eichmann was one of the primary organisers of the Holocaust and was responsible for organising the deportations of Europe’s Jewish population to death camps. He once bragged "I will leap into my grave laughing because the feeling that I have five million human beings on my conscience is for me a source of extraordinary satisfaction". I imagine that many people within the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad shared similar feelings of satisfaction when they helped facilitate his execution.

SS Officer Adolf Eichmann fled to Argentina following Germany's defeat and for years remained one of the most wanted of all Nazi war criminals. The Mossad taskforce tracked him and surrounded his house in anticipation of him arriving home. They wasted no time snatching him, muffling his shrieks and throwing him into a waiting car. Initially he was taken to safe house before flying him to Dakar in Senegal and then to Israel. Eichmann was quite rightly Sentenced to death and was executed by hanging on June 1st, 1962.
