Trudeau Meets Castro?
Written by: George Chittenden : 12 Feb 2020
This photo of Fidel Castro holding a baby was taken on January 26th, 1976, but it wasn’t until 2015 when the photo hit the headlines and became a famous image. Why 2015? I hear you ask, well of course it was back in 2015 when Justin Trudeau was first elected the Prime Minister of Canada, and it circulated that the little boy in the photo was the man who would one day be Prime Minister.
Justin Trudeau is of course the son of the former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, who was a great admirer of Fidel Castro. So much so, Castro was an honorary pall bearer at Pierre Trudeau’s funeral in the year 2000. Pierre became the first NATO leader to visit Cuba under Castro’s rule, and the Trudeau family certainly had a much friendlier relationship with Castro than any American President, but of course there is a ‘but’ to this story. Unfortunately the internet doesn’t like to let a simple thing like the truth get in the way of a good story, and in fact that little boy isn’t future Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. In reality Justin’s mum Margaret Trudeau is smiling at Justin’s younger brother Michel, who is in Castro’s arms.
