Smoking Cyclists
Written by: George Chittenden : 27 Dec 2019
This famous and rather surprising photo was taken during the 1927 Tour de France, and features two front-runners sharing a smoke. How times have changed. The cyclists are Julien Vervaecke and Maurice Geldhof, both from Belgium.
Maurice Geldhof who is on the left won the 19th stage and finished in 10th place overall, and Julien Vervaecke who is mid-toke in the picture won stage 16 and finished 3rd place overall.
