On This Day… The Murder Of Biggie Smalls
Written by: George Chittenden : 27 Jul 2019
It was on this day, 9th March, back in 1997 when the rapper Biggie Smalls was murdered by a drive-by shooter in Los Angeles, California. The rap artist’s real name was Christopher Wallace, but he used the stage names Biggie Smalls and The Notorious B.I.G. His life was full of controversy, as he often traded in a very public war of words with rival rapper Tupac Shakur.
Tupac even accused Biggie of having him shot five times in a recording studio in Manhattan, back in 1994. The East Coast/West Coast rivalry continued until Tupac Shakur was murdered on Sept 13th, 1996. Many believe that when Biggie Smalls was shot four times, on this day, it was revenge for Tupac.
Another theory is that it was the result of corrupt L.A.P.D. Police officers. Either way, despite several witnesses and huge media attention, no one has been charged with Biggie Smalls’ murder and the case remains officially unsolved.
