On This Day… Ruby Found Guilty Of Killing Oswald
Written by: George Chittenden : 08 Jul 2019
It was on this day, 14th March, back in 1964 when Jack Ruby was found guilty of murdering Lee Harvey Oswald, the man who supposedly assassinated President John F. Kennedy. Jack Ruby was a Dallas nightclub owner with connections to organised crime.
Two days after the Presidents murder, as Lee Harvey Oswald was being escorted out of the Dallas Police Headquarters with the press’ cameras rolling, Jack Ruby appeared from the crowd and shot him. Ruby claimed he was distraught after Kennedy’s assassination and his grief caused him to suffer “psychomotor epilepsy” resulting in him shooting Oswald unconsciously.
A jury found him guilty and sentenced him to die, however over two years later in October 1966, the Texas Court of Appeals reversed the decision. They believed that Ruby hadn’t been given a fair trial, and Jack Ruby died of lung cancer while awaiting a new trial.
